JKR Building Company had the privilege of breathing new life into the historic Hampton Street property, also known as Blechynden House, located in Bridgetown with stunning views of the Blackwood River. Built in 1956, this heritage-listed home holds significant value to the local community, and we approached the project with the time, dedication, and respect it deserved.
Originally a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom semi-detached duplex, we added an additional 3 bedrooms, bathroom, and a spacious new kitchen. A office and games room were added. We also expanded the living and dining area and created a large alfresco deck, allowing the owners to fully enjoy the exceptional river views.
Working on a heritage-listed home meant strict regulations regarding the renovation process. The local council, in collaboration with a heritage consultant, carefully assessed the extension to ensure it respected the original architecture. The choice of materials and colour palette was guided by heritage guidelines, ensuring that any new additions were in harmony with the building’s historical significance.
Our goal was to seamlessly integrate the new with the old, maintaining the original structure’s integrity while making the extension distinguishable. Special attention was given to the consistency of floor and ceiling heights, as well as the joinery details. Every element was crafted to a high standard, reflecting the same level of care and craftsmanship that went into building the original home, preserving its legacy while enhancing its functionality for modern living.
